DREAMY WEDDING > BRIDAL SHOWER INSPIRATION

happy monday sweeties! today's post is another wedding post (sorry, sorry, but this just so happens to be what i'm focusing on right now) - specifically involving my bridal shower! the first time i was married i didn't have a bridal shower and thus have no real basis of understanding for what a bridal shower should be. i see this as a good thing and a bad thing... but mostly a good thing.

Confettiballoons

shower inspiration - confetti balloons!

the bad of it is that i don't know what the etiquette is for bridal showers. am i supposed to use the same registry i already have for the wedding (which is, currently, pretty slim) for my bridal shower as well? what if i want to make my own registry with some honeymoon-appropriate lingerie and that sort of thing? who do i ask for advice?

Confettiwhoopiepies

funfetti whoopie pies? yes please!

the good of it is that i don't usually play by the rules so i'm not totally interested in the "what i'm supposed to do"s of anything. that being said, i do want to be kind of traditional because i'm having a bridal shower and that is a pretty traditional thing. the other great thing about not knowing much about all of this is that it means i have a clean slate to work with!

Sparklebar

decorate-your-own cupcake (sparkle bar, so cute!)

i started a pinterest board for my bridal shower without making any conscious color choices or design themes - i just pinned photos that felt beautiful and fun and summery and non-traditional. without realizing it, a very strong color story came to life on that pinboard which just so happens to perfectly match the dress i'll be wearing. so here they are - my bridal shower color story and my bridal shower outfit (at least in part)...

Colorinspiration

the dress is a chartreuse and silver jacquard 60s-inspired number by dvf that i spotted at market in new york in september (apologies for the photo quality - this is a photo i snapped with my phone while our rep was showing us the line). i am planning on styling it with a fab pair of blue vintage rhinestone earrings i thrifted a while back, a statement necklace and bright-colored shoes (the ones above are nine west via zappos and i LOVE them). i'll finish it off with 60s-inspired hair and makeup, a ban.do sequin heart hair clip (a gift from my sweet friend & wedding planner, kristin of by emily b.) and a brightly colored geometric clutch (i have my eye on one from yoox!).

xoxo!

DREAMY WEDDING DIY > GLITTER WEDDING SHOES

hello again my loves! i have decided i need to start including my wedding plans in this little corner of the internet both for my own sake (my memory is crap and, despite a few stressful hiccups, i am actually thoroughly enjoying this whole planning process!) and to allow you a little peek into the little details which will make our day the wedding of our dreams.

my initial plans to wear the fabulous gold vera wang mules i found at an astonishingly decent price (thank you kindly, nordstrom rack!) were thwarted when i fell in love with a dress (the most beautiful dress i have ever seen, ever) that has silver details (no real spoilers herein, i promise). i have a GORGEOUS pair of badgley mischka stiletto booties (thank you kindly, zappos!) that i will be wearing for the after-party and possibly part of the reception but i have decided on flats for the ceremony because i am pretty much the clumsiest person alive. this left me scratching my head trying to figure out what to do... i love these vera shoes but, as sad as it makes me, they don't quite go with my perfect dress.

Verawangflatsfromnordstromrackdanvers1

a couple of vera wang contenders... neither of which i chose and apologies for the rugged polish!)

after racking my brain for weeks and weeks, it finally hit me - i've been glittering everything else in my life for the wedding up to this point (with a brief break to glitter all of the tags i made for our holiday gifts)... why couldn't i glitter my wedding shoes?! so of course i did. the thing you have to udnerstand about me is that once i get an idea in my head and visualize it i will pretty much not stop until it's a screaming success... or an epic failure. another thing you have to understand about me is that failure really doesn't scare me. especially when it comes to glittering things. there really aren't a whole lot of ways to screw up glittering something when you've been glittering so many things for as long as i have.

so, without further ado (and thank you for reading through all of that or skipping ahead, i should put a TLDR at the end of this blah blah blah'ing i can't seem to quit) - here are my before and after shots. they need another coat (this is after two coats) and a final coat of mod podge to reduce the risk of glitter-shedding as much as possible, but you get the general idea.

before:

after:

you guys, i can't lie. i am honestly pretty obsessed with these shoes. i really can't wait for them to be finished so i can try them with my dress!

TLDR: if you want something done right, do it yourself... and always do it with the most glitter. ever.

xoxo!

WINTER UNIFORM // BUDGET-FRIENDLY VERSION

so immediately after posting yesterday's outfit my sweet cousin gina asked where she could find a silk top like the one i posted... for less money. it made me realize that i've been working in retail too long (high price points are so normal to me now). with this in mind i decided to create an updated version of my winter uniform for budget-conscious shoppers using items which are all $50 or less. enjoy!

WINTER UNIFORM

well well well... look who's coming out of hibernation! sorry about the lapse in posting, things have been a smidge cray on my end and SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED since my last post.

i'm jumping back on the blogging wagon for a minute to share what has pretty much been my winter uniform in some form or another since the cold set in... high-waisted skinny jeans (to hold in all of this winter fluff), boots, loose-fitting tanks or silk shells and cozy open cardigans. i've been rocking some supreme gold jewelry lately, too, which helps me to feel less... blah... during these winter months.

Winterwardrobestaples

1 topshop moto "kristen" high rise jeans // 2 joie "tasminia" top // 3 vpl shift cardigan // 4 these madison harding boots are sold out but here is a similar pair // 5 house of harlow 1960 engraved skull keychain // 6 this anna kula turban earwarmer is sold out but find a similar one via the third piece // 7 alex+ani spike of courage bracelet // 8 sara designs leather wrap watch // 9 house of harlow 1960 chelsea shades

dreamy wedding // blushing bridesmaids

2so wedding planning is coming along, slowly but surely... the color scheme started off as shades of berries, pinks and ivory with sparkly gold details. now it's cherry red, blush pink, ivory and gold... i'm obsessed. and my beautiful bridesmaids all in a row will be decked out in sweet blush dresses of their choosing, gold accessories and bright red bouquets.

as it just so happens, yoox is having a giant clearance sale. being that they're one of my go-to sources for pretty dresses at deep discounts, i decided to take a little peek to see if i could find any potential bridesmaid dresses and boy oh boy did yoox live up to my expectations. without further ado, here are my top 8 blush beauties via yoox.com...

let's try this again.

2okay. there's been a lot going on lately and i feel like i just need to simplify. i've been exhausted and busy and wedding-ing left and right... not to mention the rain that's been plaguing the seacoast for the past month(ish) straight. it's been kind of totally overwhelming (in both the good ways and the bad). enough about that! let's look at some yummy wedding stuff.

Earrings1

Earrings!

scored these gorgeous earrings at tjmaxx last night. they're kind of perfect for wedding day - so they will be put away safe & sound until the time comes! rose gold & crystal... super dreamy. i was worried that because they're well-made and sturdy they'd be a bit heavy (my ears are pierced low and i have serious wearability issues with big earrings) but they feel great!

Ringggggg

snapped a better photo of my ring yesterday while it was looking all sweet & sparkly... in certain lights it looks like there's a fire lit underneath it!

DIYLOVEISSWEET

one of the many diy projects i've already started.

Dresssneakpeek

wedding dress sneak peek! ugh i love it so much i just want to sleep in it. it's unreal! just about the dreamiest dress i could think up.

Diybeltadventures

another diy project i'm currently undertaking... trying to figure out how to make my own sash for my dress. there's definitely one at a local bridal shop that i have my eye on but i'm not super into spending $600 on a belt, if you catch my drift. i mean... let's be honest, if i had the cash i would spend it... but the dreamboat and i are on a budget and we need to save as much as possible for the good stuff (our friends are pretty boozey, you know).

there is nothing quite like...

2your best friend/soulmate moving home after six years away, wearing the most beautiful engagement ring on her finger and with the sweetest southern man on her arm. i have been waiting for this moment since the moment she left to move down to asheville almost exactly six years ago and i could not be happier with the way things are unfolding!

welcome home, beautiful marissa! i can't wait to plan our weddings together!
